DPD Bone Resorption Home Test Kit
Know if bone loss is speeding up, so you can act with confidence on your fracture risk.
Most people only think about bone health when something feels off: a fracture that seems out of proportion, persistent bone pain, or the sense that age and hormonal shifts are changing your baseline. Without data, it is hard to know whether you are dealing with normal change or faster bone loss.
The DPD Bone Resorption test helps quantify how quickly bone is being broken down. It measures deoxypyridinoline (DPD) and the DPD to creatinine ratio in a morning urine sample. Higher levels suggest increased bone turnover, which is associated with a higher risk of osteoporotic fractures.
This test can be particularly relevant if you are over 40, smaller framed, or have had fractures before. If you want a clearer view of bone breakdown, this test offers an objective place to start.

What the DPD Bone Resorption test is for
This test panel extends our standard bone health panel by measuring the rate of bone breakdown (bone resorption).
A higher level of bone resorption markers means higher bone turnover and higher bone loss. This leads to an increased risk of osteoporotic fractures.
Bone is a living tissue that is constantly being broken down and rebuilt. This balance can be disrupted through dietary or hormonal changes leading to reduction in the minerals which contribute to bone density and strength.
This can lead to osteoporosis and a marked increase in risk of fracture, with the risk increasing with age, especially for women.
This panel can also indicate if other processes are on-going. For example, high DPD levels suggest increased bone resorption which can be seen in osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and other factors that affect bone such as Paget's disease, bone cancers, fracture and bone infections.

How this works ›Why take the DPD Bone Resorption test?
This test is best suited if you want to understand whether your bones may be breaking down faster than expected, particularly if you are aged over 40.
It is also relevant if you are smaller framed or petite and want objective data on bone turnover and bone loss.
Consider it if you have persistent bone pain and want clarity on whether increased bone resorption could be contributing.
It is a sensible next step if you have had fractures before, especially if they felt out of proportion, and you want to assess risk linked to higher bone turnover.
- Are aged over 40
- Are smaller framed or petite with smaller bones
- Bone pain
- Have had fractures before, indicating your bones may not be as strong

Bone is constantly undergoing a remodelling process, with your collagen cross-linked by specific molecules that provide rigidity and strength. One of these crosslinks is deoxypyridinoline (DPD).
Measuring DPD indicates the level of free and total cross-links in your bones. The purpose of the test is to assess for bone resorption (high bone turnover) which is useful to assess for bone conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis but also other factors that affect bone such as Paget's disease, bone cancers, fracture and bone infections.
However, it is important to note that there are several factors which can influence the levels of DPD and for this reason, it is not a routine test for assessment of bone diseases, rather an indicator of increase bone resoprtion and should be used in combination with other tests that are used to assess for these conditions.
