Is This Antibody Test Too Expensive? Why Isn't It Free?!
We know feelings can run high when any health-related product has a price. We firmly believe that if you are eligible for NHS testing, and this is convenient for you, that is the path you should take.
However, at present, private test provision by companies like Vitall remains the only option for most people.
We're very fortunate in the UK that normally the true price of everything is invisible, being free at the point of delivery.
The true cost of *all* healthcare is expensive. Tests like this cost millions in R&D & regulatory affairs and then manufacturing to scale up for production. And that's before they are sold to the laboratories at a fair profit for the manufacturer, and to cover all the development that maybe didn't make it to market.
For reference, ~70% of the lab cost for any test is the highly trained staff required to run it. The price we're able to provide is keenly priced against other providers and has to also include what we have pay to get the word out, manage individual kits and postage, handle the administration, taxes, any repeat tests, the general costs of running a business - and all the rest of it! Vitall is not publicly funded so if we don't run at a profit it is simply unsustainable.
